well what could I say, I couldn’t think of a word that rhymes with happy lol! perhaps I chose the wrong size, perhaps the wrong choice of fabrics, perhaps the wrong block style, we’re only two colors into the sew along & already I’m ready to trash um & move on, not save um cause that would make them UFO’s lol!
http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/
it’s enough to make you go buy fresh fabrics lol!
the pink’s just aren’t working for me
should I just keep going & see what happens in the end? should I make bigger blocks? different blocks? maybe the word “RAINBOW” is messing me up cause I’m not visualizing a rainbow effect lol!
the blues are starting to look like they may have a chance of taking on some kind of a pattern
maybe I didn’t give the pinks a fighting chance , after all I only made 4 lol! actually 3 , see the one with the blue? I picked the others out & added the calico
I’m driving my own self mad! lol!
I had first started a spool quilt for my new sewing room, now they make me happy! but I didn’t want to take a year to finish it but I’m starting to wonder if I should go back to my first love
has a quilt ever mad you go kind of mad?

I'm laughing here because I remember a quilt that did this for me. I ended up cutting it all up. You're blocks are looking pretty good to me. Don't give up, keep going and watch what happens when we get more colors in the next few months. We will be cheering you on.
Keep going! It will all look good at the end! I've never seen a string quilt I haven't liked. And, they are a great use of scraps.
If you don't like it when you're all done... donate it! It's still a good use of scraps (whether you like the quilt or not.)
Keep going! I think I felt the same way the first few months of last year. We seemed to do dark and dreary colours and I couldn't see where it was all leading to. Why don't you do something else as well - something simple that make you happy. 2 for the price of 1 LOL
PS You are a no reply blogger Helen, so I couldn't thank you for you nice comments on my post. Thanks for the visit.
They look good to me =). As you add more colors it may morph into something else that you love! I have some sitting somewhere that will eventually get sashed with a cross to have 4 together. I find around June I get ideas for settings and finishing things off. Good luck.
Why not commit to these blocks for one more month. If you are still not feeling it, then give yourself permission to try something else. If you are not having fun, then it's hard to stick with it for the rest of the year.
Maybe its the pink you don't like and not the strings? The blues look great. What is it about the pink that bothers you? Even if they aren't your favorite now, they might be great in the finished quilt. If you end up hating it, remember that they were just scraps.
The blocks are really pretty to me.. I like the pink ones best.. ha
Don't give up... It will all start coming together..
I like those blocks - but here is what I was taught in painting class - a little of the opposite colour will revive your colour palete - so throw a green in with the pinks and through a yellow in with the blues.
Is it the string blocks you don't like or the color? I'm chiming in with the others: if you enjoy piecing the string blocks just keep going and withhold judgement until you have enough blocks to actually do something with them. Or switch to a block you enjoy making more. The beauty of this particular challenge is that we can do whatever we want, as much or as little as we want. Figure out what would make you happy and DO IT!
Everyone has great suggestions. I tend to keep plugging and it generally works out in the end.
I understand. If you are not happy making these blocks, you can donate the blocks you have made and make something else with your scraps. Or you could donate or give the scraps you don't want to sew to someone that enjoys scraps and crumbs. This is a hobby and you should be having fun.
shelia I am having fun I think the word rainbow is messing with my mind I just need to get that word out of my head as it's not looking rainbowish to me lol!
Helen
Your blocks look good to me. Just keep making them each month and set them aside. I am sure that in a few months when you have more colors that you will have fun designing different layouts for them. If you still don't like them at the end of the year, you can just send them to me. I would cherish them!
Hi Helen:
good quilt blocks.

I've been doing hexagons with the challenge color each month. Oh I wish I had thought about doing string blocks too! I have one whole scrap drawer that is strips.
